The creation of the chicken and waffles phenomenon can be traced back to the marriage between the Von Chicken and Wafflestein families of South Germany, who were at the time seeking refuge in East Norway. Although the ceremony took place in April 1692, the union was not legally recognized by the German Federation of States until fall of 1693*.
*By this time, the GFS had changed its name to Poland.
